Foamglas Achieves BRE Rating


Range of cellular glass insulation products from Pittsburgh Corning has achieved BRE Green Guide Ratings of A+ and A. This provides specifiers with essential environmental impact information to help support the selection process. The Green Guide is part of BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) an accredited environmental rating scheme for buildings.

Manufactured from 68% recycled glass, Foamglas cellular glass insulation comprises millions of hermetically sealed glass cells. As its only solid constituent is glass, it is completely inert, un-affected by fire (Euroclass A1), and impervious to the effects of moisture and water. Offering further advantages, Foamglas will not degrade over time and once installed should never require replacement.

Pittsburgh Corning is also the only insulation manufacturer to offer specifiers a thermal performance guarantee as tests have proven Foamglas will not lose its K-Value for the entire life of the product. "Pittsburgh Corning pioneered the development of cellular glass insulation," explained Paul Jones, Director of Pittsburgh Corning UK and Eire.

"Its environmental impact is lower than many alternatives and it also has a Global Warming Potential of less than one". Paul also added: "We are delighted to have achieved such a high BRE rating which strengthens our other international environmental credentials.".
