JP Forrest Invests In More Boring Capacity

JP Forrest of Worksop, Nottinghamshire, UK has ordered a large five-axis horizontal boring machine from Italian manufacturer Alesa Monti. The machine, which is due to be commissioned in July this year, has a table size of 2500mm x 2000mm, X-axis travel of 4000mm and Y-axis travel of 3000mm, with Heidenhain ITNC 530 five-axis control.

Managing director Martin Hodgkinson says: 'This machine is the central part of a GBP1m expansion project, which includes the building of an extension to the company's premises, almost doubling the effective floor area of the existing machine shop.' The expansion plans also include the installation of a 20-tonne overhead crane in the machine shop extension.

The company, which specialises in the fabrication and horizontal boring of equipment such as gear cases, housings and mainframes, already has six horizontal borers working on two shifts, but recent requests from several key clients for heavier components has led to the strategic decision to invest in a heavy fabrication and machining capability. JP Forrest is exhibiting at Subcon on Stand C117.
