Safety Connector Disconnects If Cable Gets Tangled Wilcoxon Research is expanding its line of Maxflex cables for portable data collectors with an optional safety connector that breaks away if the sensor or cable gets entangled at the monitoring point. When collecting vibration data, it is important to keep the operator safe from being dangerously pulled towards a machine, according to the company. Safety connector cables for data collection will protect the operator during a data collection route by disconnecting the sensor from the data collector when more than 10lb (4.5kg) of pull force is exerted. Additional benefits of this safety feature include preventing damage to expensive portable data collector hardware and providing a quick disconnect between the sensor and the data collector. The safety connector disconnects when more than 10lb of pull force is exerted and can be reconnected after the sensor and cable are safely retrieved from the monitoring point. The connector disconnect...
Fujitsu Unveils FCN-078J Socket Connector Fujitsu Components Europe has introduced a vertical, surface-mount DDR2 DIMM socket connector with an enhanced contact design and 0.1mm lead co-planarity. The 240-position FCN-078J-series card-edge socket features a patented split-beam contact structure that improves module mating reliability. As a memory module is inserted into the socket, the twin-contact's wiping action removes dust and flux residue and provides a robust connection between the module and socket, even in high-vibration environments. Dual latching mechanisms ensure correct module retention and removal. The RoHS-compliant FCN-078J uses Fujitsu's own precision stamping and moulding technology to achieve 0.1mm co-planarity before and after reflow. This low-co-planarity specification contributes to improved manufacturing throughput yields. Applications include blade servers, switches, routers, telecom racks and test and measurement equipment to minimise occupied board ...
US Navy Approves Tyco Lightcrimp Plus ST Connector Tyco Electronics has obtained approval from the US Navy for its multimode Lightcrimp Plus ST connector and it has been added to the 'Navy Recommended Fiber Optic Components Parts List'. Currently listed under Tyco Electronics part number 2064757-1, it will also be listed under the CID number once the CID is published. The Lightcrimp Plus ST connector has a dedicated termination kit (part number 2064764-1), the use of which is recommended for proper installation.
ITT CoF Filters Provide Platform For TVS Connector The chip-on-flex (CoF) filters from ITT Interconnect Solutions provide the framework for a new TVS surge suppression connector. The CoF filter design, with one standard flex per layout, utilises a flexible circuit internal to the connector where chip capacitors are surface mounted on a very small pad adjacent to the feed-through contact. This flex circuit design provides the necessary platform for surface-mount TVS devices for lightning-strike protection. Off-the-shelf devices for both filtering and surge protection can be mounted using an automated manufacturing process. The result is a cost-effective, reliable, lightweight and compact design, benefiting from the thermal and mechanical performance associated with ITT Interconnect Solutions's CoF products. CoF filters offer customisable individual circuit values by adding or removing the chip capacitor and TVS devices. A range of capacitance and TVS values is available. Teste...

Souriau Unveils Range Connector

Souriau's UTO range connector is designed for high-speed Ethernet connections in severe operating environments, and can be assembled in less than a minute. It allows the user to use a standard RJ45 cordset and does not require any specific tooling. It is designed for field installations in applications such as robotics, machines, automation systems, rail systems and industrial telecommunications, as well as onboard applications. The UTO RJ45 connector is easy to assemble. The user takes any new or used cordset, breaks off the standard snap clip by hand and inserts it into the socket. The clip-based mounting system developed by Souriau will then mount and securely maintain the cable. Thanks to this system and unlike competing models, the UTO RJ45 comprises only three main parts that are easily handled by the assembly operator. It is resistant to impact and vibration, and offers excellent temperature performance from -40C to 85C. It offers IP67 sealing, and is salt-mist-resista...

SMT Connector Powers LEDs From Underside Of Board

Tyco has introduced the SMT thru-board connector, which supplies power from the underside of an FR4 or aluminium-clad PC board, eliminating issues of dressing wires on the top side of LED boards. The two-position through six-position connector surface mounts on top of the board, passing through the board to present an underside interface. The connector mates with standard Mini CT connectors. The inverted design allows simpler assembly and installation of solid-state LED lighting in architectural, residential and commercial applications. The Mini CT connector is rated for three amps per contact, on 24 AWG wire. A space-saving low-profile design and rounded corners minimise shadowing. The connector fits through a hole or notch in the board. High-temperature materials allow the connector to be reflow soldered, while a flat-top surface provides compatibility with vacuum pickup. The connector uses surface-mount hold-downs to provide stability during mating and unmating. With UL listing...
