Adam's PMB Balances Simplify Moisture Analysis Adam Equipment has brought out the PMB53 and PMB202 moisture balances, which simplify and accelerate moisture analysis. The PMB53 provides moisture determination results at 0.01 per cent/1mg with a capacity of 50g, while the PMB202 provides results at 0.05 per cent/10mg with a capacity of 200g. These new PMB balances allow a USB memory stick to store an unlimited number of results and test programs. Tests can be run at most locations and results stored on the spot. Data can later be uploaded for further analysis. Setting up more than one PMB is simple, as configurations can be transported from one balance to another and easily loaded into the new PMB. A USB I/O port and bi-directional RS-232 interface are also included, allowing for other types of connectivity. Labsphere To Present QE-1000 At Photonics West Labsphere, in partnership with Photal Otsuka Electronics, has developed the QE-1000 to measure the quantum efficiency of luminescent materials. By employing the Halfmoon integrating hemisphere, the QE-1000 measures liquid and solid samples with high accuracy and reproducibility. The system allows excitation across a broad spectrum of 250-700nm and detection from 240-800nm. The QE-1000 will debut during Photonics West 2010, which will be held 23 - 28 January at the Moscone Center, San Francisco.

Metrohm IC Precisely Determines Anions And Cations Metrohm's hardware and software for IC automatically dilute samples inline, ensuring determined sample peak areas are within calibration limits and high ionic-concentrations don't overload the column. This in turn ensures accurate anion and cation determination. To perform automated dilutions, the 850 Professional IC, the 858 Professional Sample Processor and the MagIC NET software are equipped with a magnetic stirrer and an 800 Dosino. The latter aspirates a defined volume of undiluted sample and transfers it to the mixing vessel. This subsequently doses the dilution medium, generally ultra-pure water, into the mixing vessel. OGT Selects Lab901's Screentape Systems Lab901 has shipped the first of its next-generation Screentape systems for automated RNA QC to Oxford Gene Technology (OGT), in Oxford, UK. Screentape R6K is a next-generation platform for RNA QC that automatically delivers the Screentape Degradation Value (SDV), an objective quality metric for total RNA samples. Lab901's Screentape platform eliminates steps such as gel reagent preparation, chip priming and chip-vortexing, and because individual micro-gels are used for each sample analysis, the platform avoids all problems associated with cross priming and sample carry-over. Lab901's Screentape device can be used more than once. A single sample can be run cost-effectively each time, reserving the rest of the available channels for future experiments. It removes the need to batch samples together or throw away unused portions of the consumable, which improves the RNA QC workflow and saves money.

Autoscribe Releases Matrix LIMS Survey Results Autoscribe is making the results of its 2009 annual user survey available to users of the Matrix LIMS software. The survey, which was conducted in the USA and the UK, included questions relating to the software quality, system documentation, system implementation, support response and accuracy, and training performance. In addition, the survey asked 'What do you like most about your Matrix system?'. In the USA survey, 71 per cent of users voted for flexibility/system configuration and a further 13 per cent for ease of use. The full analysis is included in the report. The latest surveys, conducted in the USA by Zumatrix and directly by Autoscribe in the UK, were circulated to all users of Matrix LIMS.All the results received are included in the surveys, which include comparisons to 2006. Altec Develops Crane For Prinoth Vehicle Altec Industries has partnered with Prinoth to install cranes on its Go-Tract range of vehicles, including the Altec AC38-127S on the GT4500 tracked vehicle. Altec can install 18 to 38ton telescopic cranes, high reach isolated man lift booms up to 46m, pressure washers and digger derricks on Prinoth track vehicles. These features will allow for work in places previously not accessible by trucks, offering a significant cost reduction on operation and gain on time.
