ESAB Explains How To Improve Welding Productivity At Schweissen und Schneiden 2009 in Essen, Germany, ESAB provided an exhibition newsletter entitled 'Let's Talk Productivity' that explains the link between quality and productivity. The newsletter, which was available free to those who visited the ESAB stand, explained how real productivity gains in welding and cutting must come from more than just cost-cutting exercises. The company said fabricators need to recognise that quality is the key to real productivity gains, reducing the overall cost of fabrication and boosting output potential. Nazmi Adams, global marketing director at ESAB, wrote: 'Low-quality products can be a false economy, resulting in further expenditure elsewhere that makes the initial savings pale into insignificance. Permabond Offers Alternative To Welding Permabond is offering a range of high-performance adhesives for use in place of welding. Permabond has reported that laboratory testing and customer feedback show positive results for its latest adhesive. The adhesive has the ability to withstand high temperatures (such as those experienced during the powder coating process) and the seamless aesthetic appearance of welding after parts have been powder coated. Fanuc Supplies Coded Welding Robot To WA Lewis Precision engineer and sheet metal fabricator, William A Lewis Engineering of Shrewsbury, has illustrated how versatile a single robot can become once its full potential is realised. A subcontractor predominantly to the defence sector, WA Lewis is using the robot cell to weld, at coded level, the widest range of materials and also for plasma-cutting plate up to 2in thick. The Fanuc Robotics System 100 welding cell comprises a six-axis Fanuc Robotics Arcmate 100iB robot within a self-contained enclosure. Components loaded into jigs on a manually operated table are loaded outside the cell while the robot welds components within the cell. The system is designed and manufactured by Fanuc Robotics as a self-contained unit that is delivered ready assembled and only requires services to be connected before operation on site. Migatronic has added two models to its range of super compact, mono-phase Delta welding machines, both of which can weld thicker plates than the three present Delta machines. The Delta 200 HP TIG/MMA machine features a pulse function and high output in the current range 5-200A, while the Delta 180 E MMA machine operates in the current range 5-180A. The increased power has no effect on the weight: Delta 200 HP weighs 10.7kg and Delta 180 E weighs 9.5kg. In addition to assembly and repair jobs, the two machines are also suitable for workshop use. With casings of aluminium and plastic available, the operationally reliable welding machines are both portable and sturdy. With the scratch ignition, the Delta 180 E MMA can also be used for simple TIG welding.
