Siemens Enhances Service Offering Siemens Drives Technology has linked up with a number of industry suppliers and distributors to deliver products and systems faster to customers. Siemens drive train products, which include variable speed drives, induction motors, geared motors and gearboxes, are being offered through established partner companies. Siemens has also increased its service offering and is now providing a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week call-out service for all of its motors. UK stock profiles have also been increased and widened to meet the additional expected demand created by the partners. Siemens is now able to supply a wide range of Eff1 industrial motors up to 200kW direct from stock at its Bradford site. Siemens Software Enables Vehicle Development Siemens PLM Software claims that its technology enabled the development of more than 90 per cent of the vehicles that automakers are exhibiting at the North American International Auto Show. The software was used to plan, evaluate and coordinate the development and manufacturing engineering of these vehicles. Siemens PLM Software provides OEMs with managed collaboration across complex engineering functions and throughout the extended supply chain. In 2008, there were 68 million cars produced globally by the top 50 Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers and of those vehicles, Siemens PLM Software's technology was used in 64 million, the company said.

Siemens Energyk has welcomed the government's plans for the national roll out of smart meters but says energy-distribution companies need to play an active role if DECC is to meet its targets. Centrally coordinating the communications between smart meters and the utility companies via a proposed central-communications model will provide distribution companies with a development platform for smarter grids and enhanced information about how the network is performing. Details about which parts of the system are heavily used and which are less busy allows them to maximise equipment performance and make more informed decisions based on the stresses a particular component has suffered. Smart metering will enable customers to better understand and take control of their energy consumption in ways that they never could before. It will also pave the way to realising the potential of radical solutions for energy supply, such as combined heat and power and local micro-generation. It will...

Siemens Enhances Milltronics Belt Scales Siemens has extended its range of Milltronics MSI and MMI belt scales, allowing them to be used on systems with flow rates of up to 12,000 tonnes per hour, an increase of 7000 tonnes per hour. The Milltronics MSI is a heavy-duty single idler belt scale. It is designed for use in rugged process applications and offers instant response to belt loading. It has an overload protection to 300 per cent. The MSI measures only the vertical load applied through the belt and the supporting suspended idler, making it structurally sound so that it can be applied to the most demanding applications. Drop-in installation makes alignment easy and economical. The Milltronics MMI is a heavy-duty, high accuracy multi-idler belt scale consisting of two or more MSI scales. The two-idler MMI-2 offers accuracy up to +/- 0.25 per cent. It is suitable for critical process and load-out control. For even greater accuracy, the Milltronics MMI-3, a three-idler belt sc...
