Torque Arms Improve Production During Assembly The new EZ-Slider torque arms from Mountz are designed to improve production and quality control during the assembly process. The ergonomic design of the torque arm is intended to reduce repetitive motion injury and carpal tunnel syndrome. The handling of the torque arm provides comfortable tool operation and increased production. The Mountz torque arm eliminates the torque reaction of power and pneumatic tools. Crafted with a lightweight durable carbon fibre, the EZ-Slider torque arm slides up and down and provides X- and Y-axis mobility. A gliding rail system from Mountz gives the EZ-Slider torque arm the freedom to travel horizontally (side to side) on a production floor. Combining these two items give manufactures the ability to set up a slide-and-glide movement with the EZ-Slider. The torque arm is suitable for multi-tool applications such as a moving production and assembly line where balancers are fixed to a trolley system. Th...

Rem Sales has announced the introduction of two Tsugami Precision Swiss turns, available for delivery from March 2010. The 20mm models, the Tsugami S205 and Tsugami S206, are suitable for the production of complex parts. Live tools for cross and face operations are found on the main and sub spindle. A two-path control permits true, simultaneous operation of the main and sub spindle, which reduces cycle times. The modular, spacious tool zone allows driven tools to be moved from main to sub spindle and from face to cross positions with ease. The S206 has the same capabilities of the S205, plus backworking y-axis movement. A Fanuc 31-iA control is standard on both models, which also can accommodate an optional 'chucker kit' that allows the machine to be run as a Swiss turn or fixed-headstock lathe. The fixed-headstock configuration can use unground bar stock, eliminating bar remnants and improving part concentricity.

Bearing Programme Saves Lost Production Costs The NSK bearing substitution programme has saved a major producer of frozen food products GBP5,984 a year in downtime and lost production costs. The savings are a result of solving a problem of repeated heat-related bearing failures in a heat shrink tunnel used for packaging beef burgers. The failures, on a hot-air circulation fan, were a major cause of concern to the food producer, as each time they resulted in costly downtime and lost production. NSK engineers visited the frozen food plant to view the application and obtain samples of the failed bearings for inspection and analysis. The subsequent report, compiled by NSK, confirmed that the main cause of failure was the excessive temperature the bearings had been subjected to. In view of this, NSK suggested that its HLT Self-Lube inserts would be more suited for the application. HLT Self-Lube inserts can allow companies to reduce maintenance, downtime and replacement costs at temperat...

Deritend Moves Gearbox Production To New Facility Deritend Industries will move its West Midlands gearbox production, repair and fabrication work to a 32,000 square-feet (9754 square-metres) engineering workshop in West Bromwich. The new facility will house the smaller gearbox work for the West Midlands and the Deritend Large Rotating Machines business established there in early 2008. The new facility joins several of Deritend's 14 other workshops across the UK in offering 24-hour maintenance support and engineering services. The workshop is designed for working with gearboxes and large machines. It has already let Deritend expand its capacity to serve industries such as power generation, mining and steel production with large gearboxes and fabrication work. The integration of the smaller gearbox business completes the change-over to the new site, based just a mile away from the original facility. Deritend offers a comprehensive breakdown engineering, machining and fabricatio...
