Energos Gasification For Energy-Recovery Plant Commissioning is underway at a second Energos gasification plant at Borregaard Industries, Sarpsborg, in Norway - the company's eighth energy-recovery facility (ERF) in Europe. The facility is owned by Hafslund Heat and Power AS, who appointed Energos to deliver the MandE package. The Energos process will recover in excess of 80 per cent of the energy contained in the non-recyclable waste. The plant will reduce carbon-dioxide emissions by an approximate total of 40,000 tonnes a year. A further six Energos plants - Newport, Irvine, Lincolnshire, Barry, Doncaster and Knowsley - have received UK planning permission and are targeted to open in 2013. In Europe, Energos is said to offer the only proven and commercially viable gasification technology capable of generating renewable energy from municipal waste and post-recycling residue. It offers a clean energy-recovery-from-waste solution that provides an alternative to mass-burn incineratio...
Combustion Services Prevent Fires At Coffee Plant Stelter And Brinck has announced that it provides combustion services to a coffee bean manufacturing plant to prevent fires. Stelter and Brinck provides an annual service on the plant's combustion equipment, which includes burner tuning for efficiency, NFPA and insurance safety checks, a system leak test against gas leaks, burner and pilot inspection to check the operation reliability, supply and fitting of any necessary replacement parts, and preventative maintenance. The company has also carried out plant upgrades and new installations on process air heaters, burners and valve trains, when this was recommended for improved efficiency.

Flowserve Cartridge Valves For Nuclear Plant

Flowserve Flow Control has supplied 16 Worcester F911 cartridge valves for a medium active salt-free evaporator (MASFE) installation at the Thorp nuclear reprocessing plant in the north west. The MASFE is primarily used to process medium-active liquors, concentrating them down prior to further evaporation and vitrification into glass. To ensure the valves can be maintained efficiently and safely, they are supplied within a control bulge - a prefabricated and tested extension of the cell. They are housed within a control cabinet and operated by extension stems, varying in length between 600 and 900mm, that pass through steel shielding as well as the roof of the cabinet. With the valves installed at an angle, two universal joints are used on each stem to ensure alignment. Space considerations, as well as ease of repair, were an important element in valve selection for the control cabinet and the Flowserve cartridge valves - four of which automated by Norbro pneumatic actuators - were ...
Honeywell To Help Boost Efficiency At Sugar Plant Honeywell has announced it has been awarded a three-year maintenance and support contract with Turkey's largest private sugar producer, Konya Sugar. As part of the Solution Enhancement Support Program (SESP) contract, Honeywell will upgrade the Experion process knowledge system (PKS) at Konya Sugar's Cumra production site. SESP is Honeywell's core system support programme that helps customers keep automation investments up to date. In addition, SESP provides several support mechanisms that can improve the performance and uptime of automation systems, such as training for engineers and operators, access to Honeywell's on-line knowledge base, and access to the experts in the technical assistance centre to assist with troubleshooting. 'We selected Honeywell after seeing significant improvements in product quality and production capacity as well as a reduction in production costs with the earlier implementation of Ex...
Yokogawa Marex Provides Plant Upgrades Yokogawa Marex has won three major international projects in the first quarter of 2009; two in Saudi Arabia and one Russia. The three orders were won for systems at Ibn Zahr in Saudi Arabia, Ma'aden, also in Saudi Arabia, and the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant in Russia. Ibn Zahr in Saudi Arabia is a large chemical complex located in Al-Jubail in Saudi Arabia producing PP (polypropylene) and MTBE (methyl tertiary-butyl ether). PP is used in a wide range of applications such as packaging, textiles, stationery, plastic parts and reusable containers. Yokogawa Middle East will upgrade its plant-wide control and information systems with Yokogawa Marex providing specialist integration and upgrading of its Plant Information Management System. Yokogawa's Enterprise Historian, Exaquantum, has been selected to replace the existing Promace systems, bringing together existing information systems under a single solution platform. Ma'aden (Saud...
