Mazet Introduces Multi-Range Spectral Sensors Mazet has unveiled its multi-range spectral sensors that it uses as a basis for developing and supplying application-specific sensor modules for its customers. The sensors can be adapted to applications with regard to the number of spectral channels and the spectral transmission characteristics of each channel. The first sensor introduced in this design has six spectral channels, whose filters, which range from 400nm to 700nm, overlap one another and are uniformly distributed over the range. These modules are distinguished by their small size, their parallel signal processing of all spectral channels, their high operating temperature range, their long-term stability and their high degree of resistance to environmental effects. Bumotec Unveils Multi-Tasking Machining Centre To improve productivity for manufacturers of complex components, Bumotec has launched its S191 multi-tasking machining centre. Working within a compact envelope of 410mm x 200mm x 400mm in X, Y and Z respectively, the S191 has an accuracy level of +/-0.0001mm. This works in harmony with a rotational C-axis and a swivelling B-axis with an angular travel of -25 to +120deg and an accuracy level of 0.001deg. Multi-Speed Transmission Improves Electric Cars Vocis has developed a multi-speed transmission that will contribute to the acceptance of electric vehicles, and will display it at EVS, the Electric Vehicle Symposium (to be held 13-16 May in Norway). Simulations show that a two-speed configuration could reduce the battery energy consumed by five to 10 per cent over the industry-standard New European Drive Cycle, without increasing cost or packaging volume; it could also extend battery life and potentially help downsize the power-train and battery pack.
