OSM Safety Unit Monitors Motor-Rotation Speed Omron Scientific Technologies has introduced the G9SX-LM Low-speed Safety Monitoring Unit. Consisting of two proximity sensors and a G9SX safety controller with fault diagnostics, the G9SX-LM is a Category 3 (EN954-1), SIL 3 (IEC/EN 62061) certified redundant safety system that monitors and confirms motor-rotation speed to facilitate safe machine maintenance. The system can also provide standstill monitoring. The G9SX-LM allows an operator to access the machine for maintenance work while the machine is running at a safe, maximum set operating threshold of 10Hz. Should the motor speed exceed the preset speed, the G9SX-LM will stop the machine immediately. An optional A4EG Enabling Grip Switch provides an additional layer of safety protection that, if pressed or released, will also immediately stop the machine. The G9SX-LM is certified to all relevant North American and International safety standards and is engineered to deliver reliabl...
Stepper-Motor Controller Mounts 42mm Flange Motor The TMCM-110-42 is an intelligent stepper-motor controller and driver module designed to be mounted directly on a 42mm flange motor. The module converts the motor into a compact mechatronic device with bus-oriented or standalone control. The motor, switches, power and multi-purpose I/Os can be connected with small plug-in connectors. The module comes with the PC-based software-development environment TMCL-IDE for the Trinamic Motion Control Language (TMCL). Using predefined TMCL high-level commands, a rapid development of motion-control applications is guaranteed. There are two inputs for reference, stop switches, one general-purpose digital or analogue input and one output. The TMCM-110-42 can be controlled via an RS-232, RS-485, IC or CAN interface and communication traffic is kept very low as all time-critical operations are performed onboard. The programme can be stored in the onboard EEPROM for standalone operation and the fi...
S Series Shaft Motor Has Combined Linear Encoders The S series shaft motors from Micromech has combined linear encoders, encoder guides and mechanical systems. Shaft motors are direct-drive linear servomotors that consist of a shaft with laminated magnets and cylindrically wound coils controlled by the flow of current. They are a simple construction that use magnetic circuits consisting of permanent magnets and coils. Characteristics of the motors include precision positioning, high and low constant speed performance. The standard versions of most motors including linear motors is that the circuits are made of magnetic iron, while shaft motors are not. This means that there is no adsorption force between the shaft and forcer (coil), thereby totally eliminating cogging. Shaft motors are capable of high thrust, for example 2340N with a single forcer and 9360N using four forcers (parallel plus tandem drive). The 'S' series is very quiet due to the absence of friction and the...
Nord Subassemblies Include Gearbox And Motor As part of its range of Nordbloc industrial gear units for torque output from 60,000 to 200,000Nm, Nord supplies modular subassemblies. These comprise Unicase gearbox, motor and coupling with a range of options and accessories. Fully pre-assembled on torsionally rigid motor swing-base or base-frame mountings, the combined units require no complex alignment and are supplied fully tested. The ready-to-install modular gear unit systems are scalable and custom built to suit specific load, mechanical interfacing and environmental specifications for heavy-duty conveying and lifting applications. By specifying a complete subassembly, customers can use the Nord design service to manage all aspects of the application, as well as making system commissioning more straightforward and simplifying purchasing. Each modular system comprises gearbox, motor and base frame with options of elastic or fluid coupling, drum or disc brake, radial or axial fan, ...
Three-Phase Stepper Motor Offers Low Vibration Astrosyn International has launched the MY4304-01 three-phase stepper motor, which is said to be suitable for the pan-and-tilt control of stage and other entertainment lighting. The company said the three-phase design is capable of exceptionally quiet operation with a low level of vibration, making it ideal for this type of application. A further advantage is said to be its higher precision, with a full step angle of 1.2 deg compared with the more usual 1.8 deg. The high torque, Nema size 24 hybrid motor also features special bearings for high-temperature operation and its modified shaft has a KK2 keyway. The MY4304-01 can be supplied with Astrosyn's P306 three-phase driver, which delivers an output current of 3.0-5.8A per phase from a direct current input of 18-45V. In addition, eight microstepping resolutions can be selected. Other possible applications where the motor's smooth running and low vibration are crucial include ...
Orchid Offers Miniature DC Motor Controller Orchid Technologies' low-cost, miniature, brushless DC motor controller is claimed to pack a large amount of power into a tiny electronics package. The miniature controller is designed to drive 48V brushless DC motors up to 1,400W. Small physical sizes make it possible to develop high torque and operating speeds when overall product size and weight are application limited. The company claims that it combined cost-sensitive engineering with precision power electronics to craft an efficient, high-performing, three-phase power-output stage. Working closely with silicon vendors, Orchid selected FET output-stage devices while matching drive and sensing technology characteristics. It selected an ST7MC microcontroller as the brains of the brushless DC motor controller. The ST7MC's feature-rich complement of flash program store, static RAM, Eeprom, a patented motor controller, timers, analogue-to-digital conversion circuitry and robust pr...
Cedrat And Motor-Design Launch Motor-CAD v5.1 Cedrat and Motor-Design have released a Motor-CAD software package for the thermal analysis of motors and the optimisation of motor cooling. Motor-CAD v5.1 enables motor designers to optimise their designs for energy efficiency, size and cost reduction. The software is intended to provide the link between the electromagnetic design and thermal analysis of motors. Non-heat-transfer specialists are able to evaluate different cooling options during the design process. According to Cedrat, Motor-CAD has a user-friendly interface that allows the inputting of geometry, winding data, losses, materials and cooling details. The thermal parameters, such as convection and radiation coefficients, are automatically calculated. The software supports a range of motor types and a number of cooling options are available. It provides the ability to perform the steady-state and transient thermal analysis of electric motors. Motor-CAD v5.1 includes a num...
AMCI Unveils Stepper Motor Indexer/Driver AMCI (Advanced Micro Controls) has introduced the 6A SD17060E stepper motor indexer/driver designed for Allen-Bradley's Ethernet IP industrial network. This integrated stepper indexer/driver saves money and simplifies installation by eliminating the need for a separate controller in the PLC Microstepping, programmable current output, and anti-resonance circuitry are all standard features To add stepper axes, users simply attach another SD17060E to their Ethernet IP network. Besides connectivity to Allen Bradley's network, the AMCI SD17060E has many features that set it apart from conventional stepper motor drivers. Such features include anti-resonance circuitry that eliminates motor shaft jitter, unwanted vibration and stalling. It also uses vari-step velocity control, providing exceptional smoothness and performance, independent of the user's configured resolution. Smoothness is guaranteed even at the lowest resolutions. Mechanica...
