Small-Scale Machine For Micro Injection Moulding Engel has developed a small-scale electric injection unit with a 15mm screw diameter, suitable for micro injection moulding. Using an E-max 50/50 or an E-victory 50/28, it is now possible to achieve shot weights of less than 1g and part weights down to 0.1g with a high level of reproduction accuracy, according to the company. Two new drive variants with injection speeds of 330mm/sec (standard) and 550mm/sec (high) are available for the screw diameters (15/18/20mm). The optimised screw geometry, in combination with a specially designed feed opening throat, enable the trouble-free processing of standard pellets with improved plasticising and reproducibility, even with this small diameter.

Puls Power Supply Has Three Micro Controllers Puls has launched its latest Q-series unit, a 40A, three-phase power supply. The QT 40 measures 110 x 124 x 127mm and weighs 1.5kg Two versions of the QT 40 are available - 24V 40A and 48V 20A - both delivering 960W with efficiency of 95.3 per cent. The QT 40 uses three micro controllers to maintain optimum efficiency at all levels of load. This also makes power sharing easy by allowing multiple units to be mounted side by side on the DIN rail without the need for fan cooling. Other features include near-zero inrush at switch-on, shut-down input with high Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) values and built-in mains fuses. Puls' Bonus Power overload design provides 150 per cent current reserves for up to 4sec to help start demanding loads. Micro Metalsmiths Makes Fuel Cap For Spyker Micro Metalsmiths has developed and manufactured a specialist fuel cap for Dutch luxury car manufacturer, Spyker. The fuel cap, which features Spyker's company emblem, took less than eight weeks to deliver and will feature on all production cars. Micro Metalsmiths had to quickly re-engineer the production tool, which was completed in only two weeks. This needed to be more economical and less complex to machine, while providing an aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Micro Metalsmiths Opens Machining Facility Micro Metalsmiths has launched an advanced, high-efficiency machining facility, based around its recent acquisition of nine CNC Fanuc Robodrill machines. The facility is at Kirkbymoorside, near York, and is one of the company's two production sites in North Yorkshire. The launch event was attended by customers of Micro Metalsmiths, senior representatives of major international equipment suppliers and consultants to the facility. These included Mike Fujita, president and chief executive officer of Fanuc Robodrill Europe, and Mike Berry, general manager of 600 UK, part of machine tools group 600 Group plc.
