US Grants Patent Number To SGS Inspection System

United States Patent No 7,596,419 has been assigned to SGS North America's positive material identification inspection system. The original application was filed in 2005 and after an extensive examination process the patent was published by the United States Patent and Trade Mark Office on 29 September 2009. SGS now has a protected inspection system that was created to satisfy client requirements with regard to retro positive material identification (PMI). SGS clients use the PMI system to determine the alloy composition of piping and vessel materials in order to verify that only the correct materials are being used for their intended service. This SGS product is said to increase the effectiveness of the inspection process and enhance the usefulness of the collected data while ensuring higher levels of accuracy and completeness. The SGS system links CAD drawings, a PMI database, field load sheets and third-party commercial data loggers. It enables pre-selection of required ins...
Inspection System Checks Internal Welds A weld scanning inspects the internal size and shape of girth welds on pipes for use in subsea oil and gas applications and is available from Optical Metrology Services (OMS). The Internal Weld Scanning Tool scans welds inside pipes - both visually and dimensionally - enabling engineers to quickly assess the quality of the root weld. In oil and gas pipes, the quality of the root pass of a weld is critical to the structural integrity of the girth weld. Oil and gas companies, therefore, have stringent inspection requirements for checking welds. Welding of clad pipe is especially challenging and requires accurate measurement of the weld area in order to ensure zero defects and to avoid the delay and cost of a weld cut out later in the welding process. The technology can be deployed onshore and offshore at different stages of the pipe welding process. The tool can be used on corrosion-resistant alloy-lined pipe to identify sour (aggressive) ingre...
SGS Introduces Pre-Shipment Inspection Service SGS SA Industrial Services is offering its customers a pre-shipment inspection and certification service covering equipment or materials. SGS will inspect quality and quantity, packing and marking and loading supervision. A certificate of inspection can be provided against a letter of credit and authorised by a chamber of commerce. For export to countries with import certification schemes, pre-shipment inspection is necessary to receive an import certificate. Without this certificate the shipment will not clear customs in the destination country. Pre-shipment inspection ensures goods arriving at their destination conform to the required specifications.
