REHAU Products Feature In Low Carbon House

REHAU was a key partner in the opening of the first affordable, low energy, low carbon house designed for the mass market. The house has been built at South Lanarkshire College and was officially opened by John Swinney, cabinet secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth in the Scottish parliament. Scottish Ministers hope that the house's micro-renewable and energy saving features will be used as a prototype for housing developers. REHAU has supplied a complete range of sustainable products for the project including its Raugeo ground source energy probes, Awadukt Thermo ground air heat exchanger, underfloor heating, Everloc leak-free plumbing pipework system, Raurain rainwater harvesting system, Raupiano sound insulated waste pipe and energy efficient PVC-U windows and doors. Saint-Gobain Contributes To Zero Carbon House

Saint-Gobain and The University of Nottingham have teamed up to create an energy efficient, zero carbon solar powered home. The Nottingham HOUSE (Home Optimising the Use of Solar Energy), has been made entirely from materials supplied by Saint-Gobain's UK companies, and designed and built by a team of students from The University of Nottingham's Department of the Built Environment (DBE). It was part the students' entry into the first International Solar Decathlon Europe competition to design, build and operate Europe's most attractive, effective and energy efficient zero carbon solar powered house. The finished house will appear at Ecobuild before the final, which takes place in Madrid in June 2010. The Nottingham Solar Decathlon entry will show how low energy architecture can lend itself to the mass market with an L-shaped, modular design which is versatile so can be worked into terraces, rows or stacked as apartments.
