Parker-Origa Protects Drives Against Sticky Fluids Parker-Origa has developed the Clean Design system, which protects linear drives from sugary and sticky fluids present in food manufacturing and other process lines. The Clean Design system protects linear drives - including associated guides, sensors and travel-measurement systems - in a modular, stainless-steel housing sealed to IP64. The resulting drive is ideal for use where intensive washdowns are frequent and in damp, dusty and otherwise challenging environments. Key to the effectiveness of the Clean Design system is the longitudinal-seal along the stroke. A driven element passing through the seal provides the connection between the linear drive and the customer's equipment. The design and layout of the seal is such that fluids run off the outer lip of the seal and do not penetrate inside. The lips of the seal are made from low-wear material and, if necessary, can be changed simply, without the need for assembly aids. The...
iSpeed Drives Match System Output To Demand Parker Hannifin has launched a range of intelligent variable speed drives that it says will deliver energy savings for users of commercial and industrial refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. The company said the drives can cut up to 40 per cent of the energy used by refrigeration systems with single compressor units and up to 25 per cent from the energy consumed by conventional multi-stage compressor racks. The drives, designated iSpeed, are designed to control the operating speeds of compressors, fans and pumps, matching system output precisely to variations in demand, giving optimum energy efficiency with low maintenance and long-term reliability. In addition, the ability to ensure accurate control of refrigeration systems, with precise and smooth adjustments in compressor speed to match operating load demands, helps to minimise the problems caused by fluctuations in pressure and temperature. In the example of food refrigeratio...

ABB Launches 2009 Drives & Motors Catalog

The 2009 edition of ABB's Drives & Motors catalog is now available for end-users, system integrators and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The 48-page catalogue is free and provides technical details of ABB's range of low-voltage AC drives from 0.18-2,800kW and motors from 0.06 to 710kW. It also presents ABB's range of DC and medium-voltage AC drives. Easy-to-use tables give ordering data, dimensions, options and electrical details for most products, together with prices for 2009. New products for 2009 include an IP66-rated ABB general machinery drive. From 0.37-7.5kW the drive is suitable for screws, mixers, pumps, fans and conveyors in places where the machinery is exposed to dust, moisture and high-pressure washing such as the food and drinks sector. The ABB standard drive range and the ABB industrial drive range have also seen their power range boosted and are now available up to 160kW. Supporting software includes integration and programming tools, star...

Sprint Expands Range Of Digital DC Drives

Sprint Electric has brought out digital DC drives that function up to 1850A (800 KW/1080 HP). The digital DC drives are available in two-quadrant and four-quadrant options. They control DC motors used in heavy-industry applications such as mining, metal working or the cement industry. The high-voltage models are available for supplies up to 690VAC to enable control of DC motors up to 750VDC. Centre-winding macros, spindle orientation and a controllable field allow the user to control DC motors in heavy-industry applications. The PLX is configurable by the user and comes equipped, as standard, with a comprehensive suite of application blocks. A configuration checker detects any conflicts in the configurations generated by the user. The motor-protection features reduce downtime. A four-button keypad and large alpha-numeric display make it easy to quickly navigate through a range of software functions. The PLX has a number of fieldbus communications options, including: Profibus, Devi...

Three Pillars Of Wisdom On Electrical Drives

Strategy provides a holistic approach to saving energy in electrical drive applications. As a responsible solution provider and technology partner Lenze, the drive and automation technology specialist, actively supports the current efforts to reduce greenhouse gases and energy costs. With this in mind, Lenze AG has developed a three pillar strategy which provides a holistic approach regarding electrical drives. It allows the user to identify the potential for improvements in energy consumption. By increasing energy efficiency, energy requirements can be reduced with no detrimental affects on the process. In this way the strategy contributes directly to the reduction in greenhouse gases. In industry electrical drives are among the biggest consumers of energy. As a result, increasing their efficiency is a key factor for efforts to reduce CO2 emissions and energy costs. Although product oriented efforts will undoubtedly help reduce energy consumption, only a holistic approach focus...

Software Sizes Servo Drives And Motors

MotionMatch is a new sizing software package for servo drives and motors from Lenze-AC Tech. Company officials describe the combination of MotionMatch motor sizing software and MotionView drive configuration software as a powerful yet simple solution to motion control management. According to Darrow Hanesian, Director of Product Management at Lenze-ACTech: 'Sising a motor shouldn't be rocket science and neither should programming a servo drive'. Hanesian reckons that Lenze -AC Tech's MotionMatch, used with the existing MotionView, takes all the guess work out of pairing a servo drive and a motor, plus the user can now configure the drive with infinite ease. 'Our application engineers often get asked about the right size motor for a customer's application; unfortunately, however, the question usually comes after some failure has occurred', says Hanesian. Deb Kling, Lenze-ACTech Marketing Manager, agrees: 'With thousands of drive and motor combination...
