Power-Management IC Suits Hand-Held Devices Austriamicrosystems has introduced the AS3607, a highly integrated power-management IC. This PMIC is suitable for portable navigation devices, portable media players, e-dictionaries, GPS devices, PDAs and a range of battery-powered hand-held devices using ARM-based processors. The output voltage and the timing of all regulators of the AS3607 are programmed via software. With the software and demo board, the OTP memory of the AS3607 can easily be programmed, enabling fast prototype runs. The slope of the ramp can be set for the step-down converters. The user can program the startup sequence with timing steps of 1 or 4ms, insuring that all ARM-based processors can easily be covered. In order to control other parts of the system, the general-purpose I/O pins can be programmed to a specific timing. SP 2 Supports ECP3-70 And ECP-95 Devices Lattice Semiconductor has introduced Service Pack 2 for Version 7.2 of its Isplever FPGA design-tool suite. SP2 is an important update for users of LatticeECP3 devices and also includes support for new LatticeXP2 devices. Mike Kendrick, manager of software-product planning at Lattice, said: 'This important update allows users of ECP3-70 and ECP-95 devices to design with even greater confidence that the board-level behaviour of their design, such as simultaneous-switching output noise (SSO), power and timing, will match what the tools report. 'SP2 also boosts DSP application performance in the LatticeECP3 devices.' Design support for the LatticeECP3 FPGA range was first made available in the Isplever 7.2 SP1 design tool suite. IFM Launches AC007S Module For Safety Devices

IFM Electronic has launched the AC007S module, designed to connect safety devices such as fail-safe sensors and light curtains to the safety version of ActuatorSensor-Interface (AS-i). Ideal for use with IFM Electronic's safe proximity sensors, the SIL3-compliant AC007S module takes OSSD (output signal switching device) signal input from a sensor or other ESPE (electrosensitive protective device) and checks the integrity of that signal for cross faults, for example, as well as the switching status of the ESPE and its own internal integrity and transmits this data via As-i Safety at Work. Overall safety is ensured on the AS-I Safety at Work system by the safety monitor, and the safe data transmission on the AS-i bus has been approved by TUV and BIA. It is suitable for signal transmission up to the highest category 4 to EN 954-1 and IEC 61508 / SIL3.
