Parker Particle Detection For RAF Aviation Fuels The latest Icount PD particle-detection technology from Parker Hannifin is being trialled by the RAF as part of a programme to enhance the quality and safety of its aviation fuels. Fitted to refuelling vehicles, the Icount PD detection units provide an immediate indication if fuel quality falls below a set threshold, helping to identify contamination caused by particles or moisture and improving productivity while potentially reducing operating costs. The RAF has initially fitted several Icount PD units for evaluation and these are mounted on the outlets of the monitor filter housings on each refuelling vehicle, with the monitor filters being used to remove contamination from the fuel as it is pumped into each aircraft. An integrated probe device is used to extract a sample from the flow of fuel. The sample is then automatically fed through the particle counter for analysis before being returned to the fuel dispenser slop tank. Eac...

D-Tec, leader in CCTV camera-based video smoke detection, is a finalist in the Fire Excellence Awards, run in conjunction with the International Firex and Fire and Rescue exhibitions. The company has been shortlisted in the key Export Innovation category for its successful deployment of VSD, which analyses images to provide an early warning of fire, in a growing number of tunnel projects worldwide. Applications of note undertaken by D-Tec and highlighted in its award submission include: the landmark Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, Italian road tunnels and the Sydney Harbour Tunnel. Said Ian Moore, Managing Director of D-Tec: "We are very pleased to have reached the final stage of the Fire Excellence Awards for our global tunnel projects". "The confined nature of tunnels presents a uniquely challenging environment where fire safety is concerned". "Factors such as the length of tunnels, the difficulty of access, and the higher heat release rate from fire, make any d...
