Puls Power Supply Has Three Micro Controllers Puls has launched its latest Q-series unit, a 40A, three-phase power supply. The QT 40 measures 110 x 124 x 127mm and weighs 1.5kg Two versions of the QT 40 are available - 24V 40A and 48V 20A - both delivering 960W with efficiency of 95.3 per cent. The QT 40 uses three micro controllers to maintain optimum efficiency at all levels of load. This also makes power sharing easy by allowing multiple units to be mounted side by side on the DIN rail without the need for fan cooling. Other features include near-zero inrush at switch-on, shut-down input with high Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) values and built-in mains fuses. Puls' Bonus Power overload design provides 150 per cent current reserves for up to 4sec to help start demanding loads. STS Receives PID controllers From Toho Electronics Southern Temperature Sensors (STS) has taken delivery of a range of PID controllers from Toho Electronics of Japan. STS already supplies refrigeration thermostats from Ako Electronica and high-performance control solutions from Gefran CRL, but a gap existed between the two lines, according to the company. The Toho controller range, which is intended to fill this gap, is claimed to offer PID temperature and process control at affordable prices. STS claims that the temperature and process controller is available in all major DIN sizes and is capable of accepting all thermocouple and RTD inputs, as well as analogue current and voltage inputs, giving it the versatility of a high-performance controller. An entry-level model of the controller costs less than GBP80. Other features include an inbuilt timer, optional RS485 communications, seven selectable alarm types and auto or manual tuning.

Festo To Exhibit Controllers And Actuators At IWEX 2009, Festo will be demonstrating how its latest modular controllers and actuators enable system designers to use a blend of electrical and pneumatic technology to help minimise costs. The latest additions to Festo's CPX series of multifunctional electrical terminals will be on show, including: an Ethercat real-time Ethernet communications module; a series of digital and analogue I/O modules; and an intelligent control module known as the CPX-CMXX, which provides a PLC-compatible interface for multidimensional axis control. Festo will also be launching a quarter-turn pneumatic actuator at IWEX 2009. The actuator uses rack-and-pinion drive technology and incorporates features such as adjustable end positions, which makes it suitable for use with butterfly valves.

Motion Controllers Include Ethernet/IP Option Aerotech's Soloist and Ensemble series advanced motion controllers now include an ODVA-certified Ethernet/IP fieldbus option to allow direct programming from Allen Bradley PLCs using RSLogix. Register-to-register and ASCII interface programming is available to bring real-time I/O and message exchange with device configuration and data collection over the Ethernet/IP open industrial network standard for integrated machine automation and motion control solutions. Ethernet/IP is built on a standard Ethernet TCP/IP network and uses the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) of Devicenet.
