Nu Horizons Offers FPGAs For Aerospace Market

Xilinx Virtex-5Q FPGAs, developed for the aerospace and defence markets, are available from Nu Horizons. Based on Xilinx's Virtex-5 FPGAs, the Virtex-5Q range offers greater operational temperature ranges off the shelf and ruggedised packaging for protection against tin whiskering and harsh manufacturing processes. Mask-set control and long-term product availability are also standard. Virtex-5Q FPGAs suit a range of applications, including imaging, secure applications, electronic warfare and packet processing. Using the second-generation ASMBL (Advanced Silicon Modular Block) column-based architecture, the Virtex-5Q family contains four sub-families: the LX high-performance logic FPGA, the LXT high-performance FPGA with added connectivity, the digital-signal-processing optimised SXT and the embedded-processing-optimised FXT. Aerospace Industry Buys Flexible Enclosures Huntingdon Fusion Techniques (HFT) has sold flexible welding enclosures to global aerospace manufacturers involved in helicopter, bellows, spacecraft and fluid handling systems production. The HFT enclosures are manufactured from UV-resistant PVC, and are suitable for welding with oxygen levels down to 10 parts per million. All enclosures are manufactured as standard with two sets of glove ports, but extra sets can be specified. The upper half of the enclosure is optically clear and provides good welding vision. An entry lock is fitted, for small parts to be taken in and out without loss of purge quality. An exhaust valve allows continuous purging, so that impurities can be expelled during welding.

Parker Filters Use Aerospace Technology

Parker Hannifin has launched a range of air filters that incorporate aerospace technology for optimised air flow and more efficient filtration. As a result, the Moduflex Extras filters can reduce energy costs and help organisations minimise the environmental impact of pneumatic applications. The flow management system uses a number of features based on aerodynamic principles, allowing flow rates to be increased. These features include a 'bell mouth' inlet, which provides an unrestricted path for air entering the filter element, and a smooth elbow that directs air into the filter element more efficiently than the sharp 90 corner inside most conventional filters, said Parker. Many of the models in the range feature specially designed turning vanes, which channel the incoming air to reduce pressure drop and further increase efficiency.
