Burkert Introduces Type 2822 Proportional Valves

Burkert's Type 2822 proportional valves are said to be designed with unique shaped springs, enabling them to set performance standards for higher sensitivity to positional changes. The valves are also claimed to provide improved control, a higher span and reduced noise and wear in gas-handling and medical-engineering applications. The design of the Type 2822 valves is optimised by the inclusion of a flat, disc spring, which provides improved control and guidance of the armature.

The valves are intended to provide the same stability, even when they are subjected to pressure loads and vibration. According to the company, they operate almost silently with minimum amounts of friction and delivering a high dynamic response, maximum repeat accuracy and zero stick-slip. The Type 2822 is a precision proportional valve designed for minimal flow rates. The unit combines response sensitivity and a measuring span better than 1:1,000, with low electrical power consumption, low-noise operation and consistent performance over a long lifecycle.

The company claims that this is achieved by frictionless guidance of the solenoid armature and the resultant stroke resolution in the sub-micrometer range - essential for ultra-low measuring spans. The direct-acting Type 2822 valves can be used as control valves for process control and are also suitable for acting as technical vacuums. Their compact design and low noise levels make them suitable components for installation in machinery or medical devices.

In these applications, the proportional valves offer enhanced flexibility and improved integration options as they can be mounted and integrated directly onto manifolds. The 2822 valve offers users flexibility of control, either using Burkert's new Type 8605 digital electronic control module or via an existing supervisory control system. Developed to control Burkert's new generation of proportional valves, the Type 8605 provides stable control of the coil current in the Type 2822 via an optimised PWM voltage signal that compensates for thermally induced changes in coil resistance.

For setup and diagnostic purposes, the Type 8605 features a detachable operating terminal, including display and keyboard. The controller also features serial communication via RS232 and RS485 interfaces, enabling user-friendly and convenient adaptation to application conditions. In this context, configuration options allow a range of operating conditions to be covered flexibly with only a few standard variants. The features of the Type 2822 mean that the valves are suitable for use in a variety of precision applications, adding to the scope of the existing valves, approved versions of which can also be specified in ATEX hazardous Zone 0 areas.

Applications now include: medical devices, such as instruments, ventilators and dental equipment; fuel cells; textile heat-sealing machines; vapour recovery; analysers, such as spectrometers; welding; testing stations; and in pressurised and encapsulated devices for hazardous areas and bioreactors.
