Philips & Phase-out Of Incandescent Lighting

Royal Philips Electronics is to provide professional customers with a full range of product and system solutions, support and guidance to help them switch to energy-efficient lighting. The phase-out of incandescent lighting within the European Union commences on September 1 this year. The phase-out is expected to make a significant contribution to reducing energy use and carbon emissions.

Philips calculates that for example the simple switch to energy-efficient lighting in homes in Europe could save EUR 10 billion per year in energy costs - equivalent to 25 million tonnes of CO2. To enable professional customers to make a quick and efficient switch to energy-saving technologies in compliance with the new legislation, Philips is to immediately commence initiatives to help customers manage the transition throughout the entire value chain.

The company will be increasing manufacturing capacity of its broad range of alternative solutions in order to meet all its professional customers' needs lighting needs - from general purpose lighting to ambiance creation, while delivering all the energy saving benefits of alternative lighting solutions such as LED, halogen and high quality compact fluorescent (CFLi) products.
